Conficker Virus Cripples Waikato District Health Board Network and hospital...

It was reported that the Waikato District Health Board suffered a severe attack by the Conficker virus, which had apparently spread to almost 3,000 of their computers. Most of the computers affected were running Microsoft Windows XP.

The Conficker virus is particularly harmful.

It uses a unique method to quickly spread from the one infected computer to other computers on the same network, usually within an organisation's firewall.

To make matters worse, the virus then allows for remote control and manipulation of these infected computer systems for nefarious purposes. It is one more overt example of how important COMPUTER SECURITY is to organisations and companies in New Zealand.
